Current announcements suggest that the winter season at the Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport will feature nine carriers, which will operate routes in Europe. More flights are expected if the epidemiological situation improves, the airport’s operator Fraport Slovenija said on Thursday.
Presently two flight a day for Frankfurt are planned by Lufthansa, Air France will fly the Paris route three times a week for the time being and possibly daily soon. The Istanbul link through Turkish Airlines will be available three times a week at the start of the winter season, while more flights will be added if the circumstances permit.
Air Serbia will provide four flights to Belgrade for the time being. Easy Jet will resume the London Gatwick route in December with two flights a week and also plans to start flying to London’s Luton at the beginning of 2021.
Montenegro Airlines will provide four weekly flights to Podgorica until the end of November, while LOT Polish Airlines is expected to return in December with four flights a week to Warsaw, as is Transavia with two flights a week to Amsterdam.
Brussels Airlines wants to resume its Ljubljana operation in February next year, with five flights a week to Brussels.
Fraport Slovenija warned that these are the current official schedules of the airlines, which are however subject to potential rapid changes in the current circumstance. Passengers are advised to check the schedules regularly on the airlines’ websites.
The operator hoper that a successful handling of the epidemic will create better conditions that will lead to the return of more carriers.
The newspaper Delo reported today that the Economy Ministry is drawing up a tender under which airlines would be eligible for subsidies for flights to Ljubljana. Such subsidies are allowed under the latest coronavirus stimulus package. The ministry is still examining the option of establishing a new flag carrier.
A total of 267,780 passengers travelled though Ljubljana airport in the first nine months of this year, a 81.5% drop on the same period last year. According to the the European airport association, the Europe-wide drop was 72%.
