Janez Janša, the president of the Slovenian Democratic Party, was a guest on last night’s 24ur show. Below are some highlights from the conversation with the host Uroš Slak.
The government, as stated by the Prime Minister, is dealing with a political crisis due to corruption within the coalition. The Prime Minister, Robert Golob, himself announced an extraordinary session on the topic of corruption. “We want to expedite matters and help the government clarify and move on to important issues.”
The main accusation against the government is a series of corruption cases, acknowledged by the Prime Minister himself. We are not filing a constructive vote of no confidence; we are filing an interpellation, a discussion about the government’s work. There are a number of problems to be solved, and for the past three weeks, we have only been dealing with the Litijska affair.
It is in everyone’s interest for this to end. Preliminary elections are in the interest of the Slovenian taxpayer, although it may be in the interest of the opposition for this to last as long as possible and for everything to collapse in the end. The question is, what will be the cost, and how much time will it take to fix it.
“We are counting on winning the European elections; we have no doubt about that. We want to achieve as many mandates as possible. The list is strong, but we also need a strong team at home, so some MPs have also given up on candidacy.”
