The media reported rather biasedly on the event at Friday’s protest, even concealing that it was about rapper Zlatko. “One of the protesters attacked the cameraman of Nova24TV and tried to take away his camera,” was said in an informative show on RTV at 13.00, without even hinting that it was their favourite Zlatan Čordić-Zlatko. On the portal 24ur, on the title and introduction of the article it was even manipulatively written that the protest passed without major incidents. The Slovenian press agency (STA) did the same, but they wrote that there was an incident. Just incredible!
We have been witnessing for some time now how some mainstream media do not report objectively. At this protest, Zlatan Čordić-Zlatko first verbally attacked the journalist, then pulling and taking his camera, while RTV reported that one of the protestors attacked the cameraman of the Nova24TV media house. Since it was such an obvious act, which was recorded by practically every camera and phone in the vicinity, we took a look at some of the media and found that we should not have been surprised this time either.
“One of the protestors attacked the cameraman of Nova24TV and tried to take away his camera,” they said in Dnevnik, without even a slight hint that it was their favourite Zlatko. RTV avoided condemning Zlatko’s action by distancing itself from reporting on the event, which may also be seen as supporting him in some way. Given their great support for Zlatko in Sunday’s show, when he performed with a torn mask and thus supported his anti-government activism, the response of the public house is even expected. However, it is very unethical. Therefore, one of the Twitter users especially pointed out that if the media house does not strongly condemn the act, something similar could happen to it one day.
RTV’s reporting is even more controversial as they had their own journalist at the crime scene, who eternalised the video with a phone and posted it on Twitter. Well, in the evening news show, they only managed to mention Zlatko in a ten-second article. Of course, they did not call journalists’ associations abroad as they usually do with other cases.
On POP TV even so brutal: The protest passed without major incidents?!
The award for manipulation of the day was undoubtedly earned by the largest commercial television station, POP TV. On the 24ur portal they manipulatively wrote that the protest passed without major incidents?! The perversion! In addition to the violent Zlatko, small organised gangs of controversial people also walked around Ljubljana, among whom repeatedly accused Anis Ličina was seen. They did not say a word about this either, apparently only one more day passed for them in the form of an illegitimate and harmful overthrow of the government at the time of the highest number of infections.
However, on the website of 24ur they did report in a footnote: “Rapper Zlatko also took part in the protest, but at one point he tried to take the camera from the cameraman of the Nova24TV journalist team and asked him to delete the recordings. The police approached, as well as several other protesters. They fought for a while and the men in blue pulled Zlatko away. The protesters started shouting ‘Thieves’.”
According to Twitter users, the mainstream media reported the news correctly only on Siol, while all other central media reported the event in a minor way.
STA: There were no incidents, but there was an incident?!
Also on the STA reporting on the incident was limited, even contradictory. In the headline, they wrote that the protesters were on bikes again, whereas in the introduction they wrote that there were no major incidents. For those who have access to the article, however, could further read that there was an incident. “There was also an incident in the market. According to the journalist of the MMC web portal, rapper Zlatko was allegedly involved. He tried taking the camera from the hands of one of the cameraman. According to Nova24TV it was their cameraman. The police intervened. After the incidents the group shouted at them that they were thieves,” they wrote on STA.
While there was a whole incident in Izola by RTV, where they were allegedly attacked by government supporters, and where there was not a single piece of evidence, they spend a lot of energy to promote it. In contrast, double standards exist for their favourites who commit violence against journalists and are unable to convict their actions despite the evidence.
