Šarec was the Prime Minister of Slovenia form 2018 and untill 2020, when he resigned at the start of the Covid-19 crisis. He is the leader of the center-left party LMŠ, and one of the leaders of the leftist opposition. He became Prime Minister, after Janez Janša, the current Slovenian Prime Minister, was elected in 2018, but was unable to form a coalition.
