Verschwinden (Vanishing), a documentary by Andrina Mračnikar, the Austrian director and screenwriter of Slovenian descent, about the Slovenian language disappearing from everyday life in the region of Carinthia, won the audience award at the Diagonale film festival in Graz at the weekend.

The director also received a EUR 3,000 cheque awarded by the Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung. Before 1910, about 90% of the population of Carinthia spoke Slovenian, compared to only a fraction now.
