Candidate and member of Združena Levica (United Left) accused of attempted murder of his ex-wife and child, also stabbing a man years!

The former candidate of the United Left in the local elections for the municipal council in 2018 in Šentjur, Luka Vlaović, seems to find himself to be in the dock again. He allegedly mixed sedatives into a cake and drinks of his ex-wife and child with the intention of killing them. The attempted murder is being investigated by the Celje police.

It happened on Tuesday night. His former partner, the daughter of the well-known lawyer from Celje, Nuša Maček, and their child are said to have visited Luka Vlaović. At the time of their departure they both felt unwell and decided to visit the Celje hospital. There, after several investigations, they were found to have both ingested drugs.

Vlaović attracted the attention of the Slovenian public in 2014, when he found himself in the trial of the attempted murder of Rok Šibanc, an assistant professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy. The reason for the murder was only the Šibenik’s love for Vlaović’s girlfriend. He was planning the murder for a good month while he pretended to be Šibanc’s student under a fictitious e-mail address. On the fateful day, he parked a car near Šibanc and asked him to help him carry construction materials. As Šibanc bent down he stabbed him with a 14-centimeter knife. The victim fled and was rescued by a random passer-by.

Vlaovič was convicted of attempted murder, but the process was accompanied by various professional errors of the prosecution.

A judicial farce began in which prosecutors and judges played a major role. Vlaović was sentenced to four years in prison for attempted murder. He partly served his sentence under the house arrest and partly in the semi-open ward in Dob prison. After parole, however, he was released. An expert review of the work of the prosecutors showed that all four prosecutors, who had participated in the investigation and prosecution of Vlaović in various roles, had made professional errors in their assessment of the crime. However, the verdict against Vlaović could no longer be changed.

He was assisted by his former mother-in-law and influential lawyer from Celje, Nuša Maček. During his imprisonment, Vlaovič also studied law and got a job at the law firm Maček for a while. But even there he did not last long, because according to the testimony of Maček and her husband Aleš, he allegedly stole from client and filed applications that they did not know about, and later brought great troubles.

According to Maček, Vlaović worked for his friends under their stamp and reported them to Furs (Financial administration of the Republic of Slovenia) for not issuing invoices in these cases. “Since the day of termination of his employment in the office, the threats have intensified, which he finally stated in his book, where he slanders everyone, and even threatens Nuša with a grave,” Maček told the magazine Slovenske Novice. Among other things, Vlaović had the time to write novels. He published the book Puščavski zapisi (Desert records) in 2018.

Former head of the trauma department of the Celje hospital, Miodrag Vlaovič, suspected of receiving a bribe from the company Emporio Medical

Vlaović is not the only one with a problematic criminal past, his father and the former head of the trauma department of the Celje hospital, Miodrag Vlaovi

, shows similar tendencies. In the past Slovenian media have reported the indictments related to unauthorised acceptance of gifts, money laundering and forgery, and destruction of business documents. The documentation was so extensive that they had to bring it to court in a freight van. It is estimated to cover more than ten thousand pages.

At the trial, Vlaovič was heavily burdened by the director of Emoria Medical, Urška Jurkovič. She negotiated with the prosecution herself, so she told the court that she had transferred the bribe twice to the now retired head of Celje traumatology.

In her testimony she confirmed that Emporio Medical bribed doctors, “although I no longer know who and in what way the bribes happended, everything had been recorded,” Jurkovič said. As Večer reported, the elderly Vlaovič was suspended due to health problems.
