While everyone in the world is paying attention to the unfolding of the elections in the US, where the results are expected by the current US President Donald Trump and the Democratic candidate Joe Biden, there seems to be great panic on the left political wing at home and abroad. This is further evidenced by the case of Prime Minister Janez Janša, who became a target of extremists after he made it clear that he supports Trump.
Both domestic and foreign extremists attacked Prime Minister Janez Janša. One of the foreign extremists insultingly called him a Nazi and told him to shut up, and one of the domestic extremists pointed out the belief that by supporting Donald Trump, he was actually proving that he was a fan of the fascists?!
In the civilized world, it is common for politicians to endorse each other, just as Janša did, but because of it he was verbally attacked by the extremists. On October 23, Janša wrote: “We respect the difficult and tragic life story of presidential candidate Joe Biden and some of his political achievements. However, if elected today, he will be one of the weakest presidents in history,” adding that he believed Trump was a much better choice, namely because a free world needs a strong American president today more than ever. “Come on Trump, win!” Janša tweeted.
But judging by the responses, he has apparently angered many leftists who desperately want Trump to say goodbye. Despite the fact that even an expert in American politics and professor at Faculty of Social Sciences, Bogomil Ferfila, emphasizes that drama over such endorsement is not justifiable as it is quite common for similar parties to support each other. But obviously some do not understand or do not want to understand this. Janša has already responded to the impatient reactions and wrote: “Nothing angers a caviar left-wing more than the news that Trump will be President of the USA for another 4 years. Because mostly those who work to live and provide, regardless of their skin colour or religion, voted for him.”
When you dare to think differently, you become a fascist, a Nazi
Such hatred is partially the result of reporting by the mainstream domestic and foreign media, which during Trump’s presidency reluctantly reported on his achievements, as they tended to present him mainly in a negative light. All in all, this is not surprising considering that the American media mostly favour the left and nothing is different here. The hysterical outbursts of a leftist woman, as we witnessed in Pennsylvania, and an extreme leftist group on the streets of Washington aimed at creating riots in the case of Donald Trump’s victory, reflect the true culture of those who consider themselves democratic and tolerant. It is similar in Slovenia as one becomes a target immediately when one dares to think differently than most. They label you a fascist, a Nazi, a racist, and so on. You are everything, but a man.
In a democratic society everyone has the right to express their own opinion, but in a cultivated way. Hate speech should not have a place in our society, regardless of a person’s political affiliation or any other circumstance. Will insulting Janša as a fascist and a Nazi be condemned even by those who consider themselves the most tolerant and just, or will they turn a blind eye again because everything is allowed against certain people?
