Will they sweep the hogwash under the rug again?

By: Bogdan Sajovic

My dear homeland is being rocked by one of the worst scandals in its entire existence. Terrifying accusations circulated on the internet, that a group of influential artists with strong connections in left-wing political circles abused young girls, even minors, and used them as playthings in sexual orgies.

Some girls are said to have been threatened with having their artistic careers blocked if they do not bow down, and some are said to have been drugged and then abused in a stupefied state. I am writing in conditional sentences, as the cases have not yet been proven in court. I belong to those who do not think that an accusation is automatically a conviction, because then there would be no need for criminologists, prosecutors, and courts. A procedure is therefore necessary, but given the serious allegations, I am of course very surprised that the police officers did not immediately go to work and start interrogating suspects, collecting evidence, and looking for witnesses.

Such serious allegations, especially in light of the fact that one of the alleged culprits committed suicide after the scandal broke, should be the subject of an immediate investigation, for several reasons. Firstly, to prevent the possible disposal of evidence, secondly, so that if the allegations are true, the abused victims are at least given the satisfaction that their tormentors have been toppled from their pedestals and will find themselves behind bars, thirdly, to prevent abuse of new victims, and finally, to clear up who all actually participated in the mentioned hogwash, and to wash away those who, above all, the popular voice would suspect unjustly.

And, of course, to prove that Slovenia is actually a state of law, in which scum, regardless of who or what they are, are held accountable for their crimes. But unfortunately, the passive action of the police gives the impression that those who claim that the rapists have good connections and a strong influence in political circles, will therefore sweep everything under the rug, just as it happened in the case of the pharmacist or garage dog orgies…
