Politico names Viktor Orban fourth most influential politician in Europe

By: Z.R., STA

Politico has complied a list of the 28 most influential politicians in Europe, putting Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in fourth place. The Hungarian premier is ranked higher than, for instance, French President Emmanuel Macron.

The Brussels-based Politico has unveiled its ranking of Europe’s 28 most influential politicians, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban ranks fourth on the news portal’s list.

The portal writes: “Joining the EU was supposed to make Eastern bloc countries embrace a new set of values. Instead, it’s the EU that’s been acceding to Viktor Orban’s worldview.”

Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varga wrote on her social media that while the Hungarian opposition said that Hungary’s premier had become isolated in the European Union due to the veto, Politico has chosen Viktor Orban as the fourth most influential politician in Europe.

Politico named German Chancellor Angela Merkel as the overall most influential politician in Europe this year.
