Italian border police arrested 63-year-old Slovenian D.M. in Trieste yesterday for aiding and abetting illegal immigration. The Slovenian citizen transported five Bangladeshi citizens across the border in one hour for a payment of 1,500 euros.

Italian border police spotted three foreigners at a bus stop in the suburbs of Trieste, who turned out to be illegal migrants after a search. Shortly before, they noticed a car with Slovenian registration in a nearby parking lot, which they suspected was connected to the transport of migrants. About an hour later, the car drove back to the parking lot and officers apprehended the driver and two other migrants in the vehicle.

The driver was detained and is now in the Coroneo prison in Trieste, and the car was seized. Five migrants, all men aged 16 to 37, were first medically examined and then placed in an asylum home, as all five applied for international protection.
