Planned Parenthood announced last year that it would support Joe Biden in the US presidential race. Although the organisation that runs a network of abortion clinics lost significant amounts last year, it stands a fair chance of doing better under the Biden administration.

In mid-June last year, Planned Parenthood (PP), an organisation operating abortion clinics, announced on Twitter that Joe Biden will enjoy their support in the presidential elections. They wrote:

In another tweet, PP President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson wrote that the last four years saw “relentless attacks on our health and rights”.

According to the official website of George Soros’s Open Society Foundations (OFS), the Planned Parenthood Action Fund was awarded 3 million dollars in 2019. McGill Johnson is linked to George Soros not just through PP. Introducing its CEO, PP’s websites says that she is sitting on the board of several organisations, including an NGO called Color of Change. OFS granted this organisation more than 1 million dollars in 2019.

Planned Parenthood lost 60 million dollars in 2019 alone, after it left the Title X Family Planning Program, which is dedicated to providing birth control and reproductive health care to people with low incomes from taxpayers’ money. PP withdrew from the programme after the Trump administration changed its policy guidelines to exclude every provider that offers abortion services.

However, the organisation is expected to do better under the Biden administration.

“In partnership with the Biden-Harris administration and the pro-reproductive health care majority in Congress, Planned Parenthood Action Fund will work to not only reverse the attacks of the past four years, but boldly expand sexual and reproductive health care and rights for all people in the U.S. and across the globe. It’s up to all of us to build a future where everyone has the freedom to make their own health care decisions,” Alexis McGill Johnson wrote on 20 January.

During last year’s presidential race, PP spent 27.4 million dollars through a political action committee.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, the Biden administration is full of people who have received support from Planned Parenthood and politicians who have cashed its checks.

Andrea Palm, deputy secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, was attacked for naming a PP lobbyist as her deputy, to support her work in Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services.

Janet Yellen, who is likely to become secretary of the treasury, was also a member of Planned Parenthood and NARAL.

O’Malley Dillon, Biden’s deputy chief of staff, was a co-founder of a business that worked for PP.

John Kerry, Biden’s special presidential envoy for climate, received 300 thousand dollars from PP during his term in the Senate.

Deb Haaland, Secretary of the Interior, received 5,000 dollars from PP when she first ran for a congressional election.

The Biden administration is now preparing to reverse  Trump’s policies that prohibit the state funding of NGOs which send people to abortions or advise them to undergo the procedure.

Biden swings back and forth when it comes to abortion. Back in 1973, he criticised a US Supreme Court ruling on abortion, in 1986 he told a Catholic newspaper that he thought abortion was bad and offered moral support for the National Conference of Catholic Bishops in pushing for limits. In 2006, he said he viewed abortion as neither a choice, nor a right.
