The latest report from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), completed on April 24, shows that 9,770 illegal immigrants have entered Spain so far this year.
Adding to these figures this week’s new arrivals in the Canary Islands (172), in the province of Granada (51) and in Almería (81), the result is an influx of more than 10,000 (10,074) illegal immigrants. This is an increase of more than 20 percent compared to the data collected by the Home Office in its April 30, 2021 report.
Over 80 illegals a day!
According to UNHCR, the average number of illegal immigrants entering Spain every day in 2022 is already over 80 (86), 23% more than last year.
Silence about nationalities and gender
Statistics on the nationality and gender of illegal immigrants are still missing from UNHCR reports. Neither the UNHCR nor the Spanish Ministry of the Interior provide figures on this. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees states that this type of data is not made public, since Pedro Sánchez’s government has stopped transmitting such demographic indices since September 2020.
Although the current Spanish left-wing government does not publish these statistics, a report by the General Commissariat for Foreigners and Borders (CGEF), to which La Gaceta de la Iberosfera had access , shows that currently the nationality most frequently detected among illegal immigrants, arriving in Spain in 2022, which is Moroccan. Specifically, as of March 23, a total of 3,465 Moroccans had arrived at the Spanish borders.
Illegals enter despite the lack of reasons for asylum
According to data compiled by the CGEF, 47.99% of the illegal immigrants who arrived on March 23 were from Morocco, 13.24% from Algeria and 9.22% from sub-Saharan Africa.
Likewise, 8.83 percent come from Guinea, 7.07 percent from Senegal and 4.52 percent from Ivory Coast. And 7.52 percent come from countries like Syria, Yemen, Egypt and Tunisia.
The latest tally from the General Commissariat for Foreigners and Borders also shows that 74.15 percent of the illegal immigrants who arrived in Spain in the first quarter came through the province of Las Palmas in more than 100 boats.
It should be noted that more than 60% of the immigrants arriving in Spain (as of March 23) come from Morocco and Algeria, countries where there is currently no conflict that would initially give rise to asylum and international protection.
