Barcelona’s Mayor is Ms Ada Colau, part of the far left Spanish Coalition Party Podemos, and Madrid’s Mayor is Ms Manuela Carmena, also part of the same coalition. Both cities have suffered in every sense since they came to power in June 2015, Voice of Europe reports.
Foreign investment has shrunk in Madrid and all but dried up in separatist Barcelona, streets are dirtier, illegal immigrants wander around carefree selling fake goods, and crime is up, amongst other things.
The most recent examples of the latter are fairly shocking. In Barcelona’s central Raval neighbourhood, which is dominated by Moroccans and Pakistanis (and adjacent to the 2017 Ramblas terrorist attack), crime has been steadily increasing.
