Vesna Vuković and Tamara Vonta caught on recordings: “She /Mojca Pašek Šetinc, editor’s note/ is a crazy b****!”

Audio recordings of private conversations between Vesna Vuković, then the secretary‑general of the Freedom Movement, and Tamara Vonta, an MP of the same party and the chair of the investigative commission, have leaked to the public. The conversation, allegedly recorded on 19 October 2023, clearly reveals that the parliamentary investigative commission on the alleged illegal financing of political parties and propaganda was established with an exclusively political goal: the permanent discrediting of Janez Janša and SDS, and publicly labelling the president of the largest opposition party as a criminal.

“I think the gangrene needs to be cut off; if it were not for Sajovic, this would have been over long ago,” said Vesna Vuković on 19 October 2023. Only a few weeks later, Mojca Šetinc Pašek was replaced as chair of the investigative commission by Tamara Vonta.

At the time of the first conversation, key internal personnel tensions were unfolding within the party around Borut Sajovic, then the leader of the Freedom Movement’s parliamentary group. These tensions directly influenced the fate of Mojca Šetinc Pašek as chair of the parliamentary investigative commission. In those days, mainstream media intensively reported that Borut Sajovic was considering proposing her dismissal, but he did not formally submit the proposal until 6 November 2023. It appears that for Vuković, this was already “too late.”

In the first part of the conversation, Vesna Vuković clearly expresses the strategic importance of the commission: “Tamara, the investigative commission that we established is politically very important for this party […] so that they can tell Janez Janša once and for all that he is a criminal.” Vonta: “Yes, but then you do not put Mojca (Šetinc Pašek) in charge.”

Did Golob appoint Mojca Pašek Šetinc in order to get rid of her?

Vuković: “Yes, I also told him at the time that she is not a trustworthy person, but then Robert activated me, saying that she has to finish certain things so that he can throw her out. Robert always believes that if someone gets a job, they will then change. These are Robert’s psychotherapies, on which he built his business career […].”

Vesna Vuković reveals the business dealings of lobbyist Mile Šetinc

Vuković continues: “And you know that I have insight every day into what is happening there, and I hope that we will just… This investigative commission was set up in such a way, this commission contains such information that… you, as a member, an MP of the Freedom Movement, have no idea what is in there… no, what is really in there […] not what Mojca is telling, but what is really in there! And instead of us filing criminal charges, doing the right things, for example exposing why Možina (Jože) received a transfer of 250–350 thousand euros, etc.… what are we dealing with? With f***ing with the head of the finance minister, who a year and a half ago was not receptive to a visit from Mile Šetinc and his grovelling for Svoboda, and that is why he was the target of attacks. I will say this one day in parliament… This was with Klemen Boštjančič. Mile Šetinc walked to Slapar at the insurance company and told him: ‘I am coming on behalf of the finance minister, give me a contract’… this was a year and a half ago…”

According to the conversation, Mile Šetinc personally visited Andrej Slapar, the CEO of Zavarovalnica Triglav, and demanded the signing of a contract in the name of the finance minister. Boštjančič, according to the recording, denied these claims.

 “She is a crazy b****”

In the second part of the recording, Vesna Vuković accuses Mojca Šetinc Pašek of inappropriate handling of sensitive information: “Do you know what she (Mojca Pašek Šetinc) did at the press conference? She met with Igor E. Bergant ‘off the record’ as the chair of the investigative commission, and then she slipped him the information that she had instructed Žiga Debeljak to try to find a contract at Telekom. Can you imagine that, she is a crazy b****. I am telling you, the other day I told him, Žiga, do not meet with her, f***, because something else will happen…”

Žiga Debeljak was, since 2022, the CEO of Telekom Slovenije and simultaneously the president of SDH. Vuković’s accusation suggests that Šetinc Pašek, as chair of the commission, informally instructed Debeljak to find or check a certain contract – which she allegedly also admitted to Bergant.

Given past events, pressure on institutions and allegedly questionable data acquisition would not be surprising. Recall that Šetinc Pašek publicly admitted that FURS, under the leadership of Peter Grum, sent the commission significantly more data than was formally requested, including tax secrets of companies and individuals who were not subjects of the investigation, and for a period of more than 15 years back. According to her, Vesna Vuković, as secretary‑general of the Freedom Movement, accessed this confidential data through the commission without authorisation (for example, in the Litijska affair, she obtained information within hours of the transaction through the Office for the Prevention of Money Laundering). Šetinc Pašek warned about the agreement with Grum for broad transmission of past data and the possibility of their misuse.
