This is how Golob’s coalition cheats and prevents the opposition to control the intelligence services and finances

By: Spletni časopis

At the first emergency meeting of the commission for the control of the intelligence services is being held in an unusual way, with which the opposition should monitor the operation of the intelligence services so that there are no abuses of power. In this mandate, there is no serious opposition control, namely, in order to avoid the possibility that the control of public finances would be led by a member of the largest opposition party SDS, the coalition left the management of this commission to NSi opposition party. Such behaviour is undemocratic. Due to the cheating of the ruling, SDS did not even nominate its members to the commission for the control of intelligence services. For a time, there was no Intelligence Oversight Commission as a result.

Then, in agreement with NSi, the government coalition ordered an incredible composition. The committee is chaired by Janez Žakelj (NSi), the vice-chairman is Jožef Horvat (NSi), and the members include Teodor Uranič (Svoboda), Matej Tonin (NSi), Jernej Vrtovec (NSi), Predrag Baković (SD), and Nataša Sukič (Levica). Government parties control themselves with the help of a small NSi.

As many as four members of the spy control commission out of seven are from NSi. NSi has a total of eight MPs. 6.86 percent of voters voted for them in the elections. SDS 23.48 percent. As much as half of all NSi MPs are in the commission for the control of intelligence officers. This is a record in the history of the Slovenian Parliament in this commission. At the same time, this is completely beside the point of the election result and therefore unfair. NSi was not given a mandate in the elections for such a supervisory role in the National Assembly. The first emergency meeting of the commission for the control of intelligence officers, with which the government parties and NSi work to control intelligence officers, was supposed to have held last week, but it was postponed. The president of this commission announced a press statement for the afternoon at 3 p.m. after the closed morning session.
