The Supreme Court Is Run By A Couple

By: Ana Horvat (Nova24tv.si)

The President of the Supreme Court, Miodrag Đorđević, who was involved in the highly controversial affair of meeting with the criminally charged Mayor Janković, who was acquitted the next day, has his partner Tina Brecelj as his advisor. This was ignored by the media even when they walked the red carpet together at the recent national celebrations.

At the state celebrations, the first esteemed guests to be seen walking the red carpet were the President of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia, Miodrag Đorđević, and Tina Brecelj. Brecelj was only referred to as Missus, but of course, they did not mention that she works at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia as well, where her partner is the President. Former Minister and MP Dr Vinko Gorenak pointed out that this is a truly unbelievable situation, which is, of course, not being problematised by the ruling politics nor by the mainstream media that are subordinate to it.

Gorenak believes that if, for example, the former Prime Minister and President of the largest opposition party Slovenian Democratic Party (Slovenska demokratska stranka – SDS), Janez Janša, were to nominate his wife Urška Bačovnik Janša for the post of the Minister of Health, Ljubljana would run out of protesters. “But when the leftists do it, everything is OK,” he was critical.

From the judiciary to politics and back again

Tina Brecelj, the wife of the Vice President of the Supreme Court, Miodrag Đorđević, is known for jumping from the judiciary to politics and back again. A former assistant at the Ljubljana court, she was later the State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice under two ministers, Senko Pličanič and Goran Klemenčič. When the Ministry was taken over by Andreja Katič of the Social Democrats party (Socialni demokrati – SD), Brecelj’s position was filled by Gregor Strojin, former spokesperson at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia, and Brecelj took his place at the court. In the past, we have heard criticism that this case was a real judicial-political shuffle, which can only happen in this country.

Threats on Twitter

We have already written about Đorđević’s partner in the past in connection with their problematic son, who attended the Poljane Primary School (and earlier the Prežihov Voranc Primary School), where he caused a lot of trouble, which even led the couple to report certain media outlets to the police. Brecelj, who has also shown that she has ambitions to become the President of the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, caused quite a stir in her role as spokesperson for the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia, when she used the social network Twitter to make open threats to the “much too inquisitive” and “disobedient” media regarding the graduation thesis and the judicial exam of the former President of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia, Branko Masleša. Instead of explanations, the public was shocked by the Supreme Court’s statement that Judge Masleša would file a lawsuit against the said media, and they also made it clear to every ordinary citizen that he would, of course, win the lawsuit, because the next sentence read that the amount of the compensation from him winning the lawsuit would be paid to charity.

This year, Đorđević took over the position of President of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia, while the official website of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia shows that Brecelj has taken the positions of Head of the Legislation Division in the Department for Monitoring Case Law and in the Office for the Development of Judicial Administration at the Court.
