The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Janez Janša attended a special celebration event marking of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Prime Minister Janez Janša, together with the President of the Republic Borut Pahor and the President of the National Assembly Igor Zorčič, attended a special celebration event marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. On this occasion which is celebrated on 3 December, the three presidents traditionally hold a reception for representatives of disability organisations every year.

The keynote speech at the ceremony was delivered by the President Pahor, and was followed by the speeches of the President of the National Council of Disability Organisations of Slovenia Borut Sever and Mateja Toman, President of the Council for Persons with Disabilities of Republic of Slovenia. Brina Vukovič and Domen Gvozdanović, students of the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet provided the entertainment at the event.

In his speech, the President of National Council of Disabled People’s Organisations of Slovenia, Borut Sever, spoke about the need to involve people with disabilities in all procedures that concern them. He stressed that the care of disability organisations for the most vulnerable residents has continued over the past year despite difficult times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He mentioned that some changes in legislation had been adopted last year that had improved the everyday life of people with disabilities, and pointed out a historic achievement – the entry of sign language and the language of the deafblind in the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia.
