The opposition and the left-wing faction of the National Council still do not understand the basic principles of democracy!

In a single day, people in the opposition, as well as representatives of the left-wing political sphere who, after all, hold seats in the National Council, managed to declare a thousand times over how deeply committed they are to democracy.

But when it comes to even the most basic understanding of the rules of democracy, they fall short, viewing democracy as little more than the sacred truth of the political left. The same approach can be observed in the case of the President of the National Council.

In a democracy, the election or removal of an officeholder requires a specified number of votes, whether that means a constitutional majority, an absolute majority, or a simple majority. In the case of electing or dismissing the President of the National Council, an absolute majority is required, which amounts to 21 votes. If that threshold is not reached, the officeholder remains in position. Therefore, to remove someone from office, the required number of votes must be obtained. Although the left-wing political camp failed to achieve this in the case of Marko Lotrič, its representatives are now arguing that he lacks the legitimate right to lead the National Council.

“You on the far left do not have enough support to remove Marko Lotrič. Everything else is demagoguery and the kind of rhetoric typical of The Left party. Democracy is still foreign to you. It is interesting that an insignificant curator with no career achievements is calling a successful businessman a ‘collector of functions.’ Is that normal?” This is how Boštjan Perne described what he sees as Asta Vrečko’s misunderstanding of the basic principles of democracy.
