Although it recently seemed that no effective proceedings would be initiated against Dušan Smodej before the elections, mainly due to the involvement of various political parties, it now appears that the truth will come to light. Nepridiprav Aleksandar Repić has already begun revealing information. He has turned his attention to Dušan Smodej and Nika Kovač.
“I have a feeling that something will happen to me again soon, and that I will not be able to access social media; maybe they will take away my freedom again. It is important that I bring the Fotopub affair to light as soon as possible. Over the past few days, I have been selecting evidence from people who are deeply familiar with the affair, and I have prepared everything chronologically so I can explain who Dušan Smodej is and how Nika Kovač, Asta Vrečko, Luka Mesec, and other actors are connected to the affair. Details will follow by this evening,” said influencer Aleksander Repić, known on social media as “Nepridiprav”.
Nepridiprav recently regained access to his Instagram account, and he attributes its previous removal to the influence of Prime Minister Robert Golob. “Anyone with a bit of common sense can see that my version of freedom of speech did not suit him,” he told Planet 18.
A week of rapid developments
A surprisingly large number of events unfolded within just one week. First, Repić became the target of coordinated media criticism allegedly linked to the prime minister’s office, then he was detained, and shortly afterward his Instagram account was removed. All of this happened so quickly that coincidences seem unlikely to him. “And then the news that, after three years, an indictment was finally served to Dušan Smodej, right after I announced that I would address this topic as well,” he added. “These are the last kicks of a dying horse, an attempt to hold on to power.”
“Victims can contact me”
Repić said he would record an extensive piece about the Fotopub affair and publicly invited alleged victims of Dušan Smodej to reach out to him. “I will make sure their faces and voices are protected, and I want to present this story to the public so we can see who we are actually dealing with in this country.”
An indictment against Smodej, related to alleged sexual violence, drug use, and causing minor bodily harm, was issued more than three years after the Fotopub affair first surfaced, but authorities were unable to serve it. Social media posts indicated that Smodej had been in Berlin just weeks earlier.
Former police officer and criminal investigator Julijan Kren recently commented: “If the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice had issued the proper warrant, he could have been easily arrested and the procedure completed. This is the Slovenian version of the Epstein affair in America. No proper proceedings will be carried out before the elections, mainly because individuals from various political parties were involved. He certainly has some form of protection, at least as long as the current government is in power.”
It appears that the ruling structures are not pleased that Nepridiprav has taken on this story, as he could reveal real connections between political actors and the affair, which has been the subject of public questions for more than three years.
Asta Vrečko even went after Demokracija with a lawsuit over a Fotopub‑related photomontage, what will happen now, when the connections are about to be revealed?
He turns to Smodej and Nika Kovač
Nepridiprav began addressing the Fotopub affair by posting about Dušan Josip Smodej, described as a co‑founder and leading figure of the Ljubljana‑based art collective Fotopub, which originated in Novo mesto as a photography festival and later evolved into a contemporary art space. Smodej worked within circles of young artists, organising exhibitions, events, and gatherings, presenting himself as a curator and promoter of the alternative cultural scene.
He then referenced the August 2022 scandal involving Smodej, when anonymous testimonies appeared on social media alleging sexual abuse, psychological violence, and exploitation within artistic circles. Administrators of the profile “Against the Violence of Dušan Smodej” claim that Nika Kovač contacted them with promises of help, but that her involvement was allegedly more about self‑promotion and protecting Smodej. Although media often portray Kovač as an advocate for women, she allegedly advised victims against public disclosures and suggested legal avenues instead, without offering substantial assistance.
