The government is raising the price of insurance that it was supposed to abolish

By: Moja Dolenjska

Starting from Saturday, a new price applies to the mandatory health contribution, formerly known as supplementary health insurance. The government claims to have abolished it, but it has merely been transformed into a health contribution, which is now mandatory.

Last year, the government restructured supplementary health insurance to prevent its price increase. Health insurance companies had announced plans to raise the cost of supplementary insurance, so the government transferred it to the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia (ZZZS), making it mandatory for everyone – unlike before, when it was voluntary. However, it did not take long before ZZZS also increased the price.

As of Saturday, the mandatory health contribution is over two euros more expensive than before, now amounting to €37.17.

All employees, retirees, self-employed individuals, farmers, and others are required to pay this mandatory health contribution.
