This year, the Slovenian Democratic Party is celebrating 33 years of its existence. It grew on the foundation of the longing of thousands of Slovenian patriots and democrats, who combined their ideas and strengths of individual members, supporters and sympathisers, and through many ups and downs, it developed into the central political power of the Slovenian nation and remained faithful to its programme, principles of parliamentary democracy and constitutional values. The Slovenian Democratic Party is the political force of Slovenian independence, the political force of the present and the political force of Slovenia’s future.

On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Slovenian Democratic Party (Slovenska demokratska stranka – SDS) and the 90th anniversary of the birth of the father of Slovenian statehood, Dr Jože Pučnik, the SDS academy took place in the cultural and congress centre Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana. In addition to the President of the Slovenian Democratic Party, Janez Janša, the event was also attended by MEPs Romana Tomc and Dr Milan Zver and many deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, as well as other prominent members of the party. The event was also attended by registered candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

At the beginning of the academy, which was hosted by MP Eva Irgl, those present listened to the Slovenian national anthem, performed by the Žetev Octet. This was followed by an introductory speech by the host of the evening, the President of the local committee of the SDS party in Ljubljana and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Anže Logar, who believes that after seven years of the government being led by Janez Janša and the Slovenian Democratic Party, it will be easier to breathe and that these seven years also include a change in the leadership of the Municipality of Ljubljana: “In Ljubljana, the SDS party is the main political force that prevents the unwise projects of Mayor Janković from happening.” In his address, Logar also said that the local committee of the SDS in Ljubljana had submitted a proposal to the Municipality of Ljubljana to rename the street where the Russian embassy is located to “Ukrainian street.”

At the end of the academy, Eva Irgl said that the upcoming elections will be crucial and that we will be deciding on what kind of Slovenia we want to live in. She wished the candidates a hearty, brave, substantive and most successful elections and concluded: “We will win! THIS IS ABOUT SLOVENIA!”
