“Ringing the bell after the hailstorm is too late.” After the ruling coalition (Freedom Movement, SD, and the Left) led by Robert Golob took thousands of euros from people’s pockets, Minister Matjaž Han only recently admitted that it was a mistake. A mistake that we, the citizens, are paying for!
Matjaž Han, a member of parliament in the previous term, now a minister and also the president of the Social Democrats (SD), having succeeded Tanja Fajon, recently stated in an interview for the Forbes portal:
“If I voted against that Janša tax reform in the previous term, which would have reduced income taxation, I would not do so now with the experience I have gained as a minister, because I believe it is significantly better for individuals to keep more money in their pockets.”
Empty rhetoric and self-flagellation, which of course cannot return the lost income to the people. You can read more at the link: Golob’s government has already taken between €2,100 and €5,200 net.
To complete the picture, the SDS party has now proposed a new income tax reduction (for the years 2026 to 2028). The government, which includes SD and Matjaž Han, and where Tanja Fajon even serves as vice president, once again voted against proposals for lower taxes and higher net wages for employees. Last week, MPs confirmed this government stance, first in the Finance Committee and then on Friday during an extraordinary session of the National Assembly. This time, SD sent MP Soniboj Knežak, elected in the Hrastnik–Trbovlje district, into the fray.
And Matjaž Han? Silent. He has gone into hiding. Perhaps in a few months he will “regret” his decision again. Who knows!
This is what Han said to Forbes a few months ago:
“If I voted against that Janša tax reform in the previous term, which would have reduced income taxation, I would not do so now with the experience I have gained as a minister, because I believe it is significantly better for individuals to keep more money in their pockets.”
And this was Tuesday’s vote in the committee, where coalition MPs sealed the fate of higher net incomes. Representing the Social Democrats (SD), Soniboj Knežak cast the vote:
These coalition MPs are against your higher net wages: Jernej Žnidaršič, Andreja Živic, Lucija Tacer Perlin, Branko Zlobko, Aleš Lipičnik, Milan Jakopovič, Bojan Čebela, Andreja Kert, Soniboj Knežak
