Professor of mathematics calculated: In Slovenia is worse than in Italy!

The Ministry of Education announced on Twitter this morning that the elementary school in Smarje pri Jelsah has been closed. The media reports that a child is also infected. But minister Jernej Pikalo (SD) announced that the kindergarten is not closing.

What is shocking, however, is the data of Dragan Marusic, a professor of mathematics at the University of Primorska, who explained on the basis of mathematical variables that the data of the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) are incorrect.

On Wednesday, Marusic posted a clip (we recommend you to watch it) where he is explaining the exponential function often mentioned in recent days in connection with the growth of newly discovered infections:
“It is not true that in Slovenia the infection with the new coronavirus is growing at a slower rate than in the countries around us, as they said at the NIJZ. In the last three weeks, except for China, the number of infected people has doubled every four days. In our country, according to the order of days, from the first of March onwards, 1, 8, 12, 16, 25, 34, and today is already 57 infected people in the middle of the day, so the doubling happens at least about every two days, at least for the time being. So not slower, but faster than around us. If we compare this to the European hotspot in Italy – in Italy, in the beginning, the doubling was somehow every two days, too, but then it came closer to three days. So at present in Slovenia it is worse than in Italy.”
