Prime Minister Janša presents the Demographic Fund Bill to the Economic and Social Council: After 15 years, this coalition has succeeded

According to Prime Minister Janez Janša, it is only right for the retired generation, which was for years creating state wealth, to benefit from it in their retirement. As the Prime Minister explained, part of what will be accumulated in the fund will be used to replenish the pension fund, to build new homes for the elderly, as well as for long-term care and for family policy measures, which are crucial for the long-term functioning of the pension system.

 

Today in Ljubljana, Prime Minister Janez Janša presented a bill on the National Demographic Fund to members of the Economic and Social Council.

As the Prime Minister stressed at the meeting, the coalition he leads has managed, after 15 years of talks, draft a bill on the demographic fund, which will include all state assets, except those subjected to European restrictions or other practical problems.

The fund’s returns will take care of senior citizens

According to the Prime Minister, it would be only right for the retired generation, which was for years creating state wealth, to benefit from it in their retirement. As the Prime Minister explained, part of what will be accumulated in the fund will be used to replenish the pension fund, to build new homes for the elderly, as well as for long-term care and for family policy measures, which are crucial for the long-term functioning of the pension system. He also emphasised that the management of the assets in the national fund is anticipated to yield returns, ensuring that the assets in the fund grow in the long run.

Prime Minister Janez Janša stressed that the Demographic Fund Act follows social justice principles and emphasized that the discussion of the law at the Economic and Social Council would take place at the same time as the discussion of the law under the regular procedure in the Parliament, without postponement of procedures.

The economic and social partners pointed out that there had been enough inactivity in the field of demography and welcomed the dialogue that Prime Minister Janez Janša initiated at today’s meeting.
