As promised, Prime Minister Janez Janša answers five of your questions every week. This time, you were interested in how the Prime Minister intends to solve the problem of young families in the next term, why young people so often idealise socialism, and whether Slovenia could manage to attract companies like Tesla and SpaceX. Among other things, Janša also revealed his favourite colour for a tie and how you can get his autograph in his book.
The first question that Prime Minister Janez Janša answered was related to the problem of young families. “Investing in the future means investing in children and young families. Nothing is more important, so in the next term, we will devote a lot of care, a lot of resources and all the due care of our society and the state to this matter,” the Prime Minister explained.
When asked why young people idealise socialism, Janša replied that 10 percent of the people did well in socialism, while the remaining 90 percent of the people suffered. “Socialism is idealised by those who fell into that 10 percent, and it is idealised by those who have never experienced socialism.”
Tesla has already been invited to Slovenia
The next question was whether companies such as Tesla and SpaceX could be attracted to Slovenia. “Of course they could. In fact, we have already invited Tesla to open a factory here, and they are deciding on that now. However, this is, of course, a matter of each investor weighing what is worthwhile for him and what is not worthwhile. One of the obstacles for high-tech companies that prevent them from investing as much in Slovenia as they could, given all our other advantages, is that work in Slovenia is too taxed, especially the work of those who contribute a lot or bring high added value – meaning engineers, developers, all those people who are most sought after as a workforce in high-tech companies.” Janša also explained why the amendments to the Personal Income Tax Act are so important. With the amendments, which will soon face the key decision-making moment in the National Assembly, they are actually solving this exact problem. And when the amendments are adopted, all wages will be higher, and the taxation of those who are most productive will be significantly lower. “Based on this, we will also be able to attract a significantly larger number of high-tech companies to Slovenia, which will also pay higher salaries,” he said.
