The Youth Forum, the youth wing of the Social Democrats (SD), organised a demonstration for peace in Palestine 17.1. 2024 at 13.00, whatever that may mean. The rally is supposed to be held in front of the US Embassy building.
“With a symbolic action taking place in front of the United States Embassy in Ljubljana (Prešernova 31), the Youth Forum aims to condemn the painful silence of the international community regarding inhumane atrocities against civilians, lasting for more than 100 days,” stated in the invitation. They added that the main speaker would be the president of the Youth Forum, Luka Goršek.
For now, it is not explained why the protest is specifically in front of the U.S. Embassy.
Well, apparently the left-wing organisations, which do not even hide their sympathies for Hamas, have a hard time coming to terms with the truth about Gaza, and especially with the fact that Hamas has no problem sacrificing tens of thousands of innocent civilians for human shields. And while we listen to the daily news about new and new victims allegedly blamed by “genocidal” Israel, few media try to point to the behind the scenes and the fact that the mainstream media mainly relies on the information that Hamas sends to the world. Which, by the way, is a terrorist and criminal organisation.
At the same time, Israelis have already sent a film to the world that greatly exceeds previous knowledge of what is happening in Gaza. We wrote about it HERE. We also recommend that Youth Forum watch the film and other materials HERE.
Given the recent calls by MEP Matjaž Nemec (SD) in Dražgoše for Slovenia to join South Africa’s lawsuit in Israel, it seems that the Golob government is already preparing for a step in which Slovenia would join the mentioned lawsuit. Although this step will be very difficult to explain to the West, especially in light of the fact that Slovenia is a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council this year and next.

The young forum then sent a peace statement to the public, which came to light shortly after Israel and Hamas reached the first agreement regarding humanitarian aid. Perhaps this is also why the statement is more moderate than we expected: “The cycle of violence that has characterised Israeli-Palestinian relations for decades has so far brought nothing but death and destruction. The time has come for all stakeholders to start creating space for peace and stop warmongering. In the SD Youth Forum, we emphasise the necessity of a ceasefire that would allow civilians to find safe shelter and finally feel the peace they so desperately need. We must stop both Islamist and Zionist extremists on both sides and ensure that humanity prevails over hatred.”
However, they insist on the media portrayal of Gaza, claiming that Israel systematically exterminates the population of Gaza. “Based on public statements from the entire Israeli government, especially Israel’s Defence Minister Joav Galant, who labelled Palestinians as animals, it has become clear that the Israeli government plans the complete destruction of Gaza. For their actions, as emphasised by many politicians and legal experts, we have only one word: genocide. Youth Forum SD therefore supports the lawsuit of the Republic of South Africa against the State of Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). We expect Slovenia to join this ICJ proceeding if the Court decides to adjudicate on the matter.”
Now the ball is in the court of Tanja Fajon, the party president and foreign minister.
