At a March session of the City Council of Ljubljana, the NSi Ljubljana councillors asked the mayor a question to condemn the Russian Federation’s military invasion of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and end twinning with Moscow until President Putin’s aggression is over. They also demanded clear answers from the mayor as to whether the mayor would return the decoration, he received in 2017 from the President of the Russian Federation, as some prominent individuals have already done.

The mayor who should have chaired the City Council meeting, did not attend it. After the question from councillors, Deputy Mayor Aleš Čerin said that city councillors had just received a written answer to the question condemning Putin’s aggression against Ukraine.

“Despite clear questions from the NSi Ljubljana Councillors, we did not receive all the answers from the mayor. In response, only a resolution condemning Russian aggression was proposed. We have not heard a word from the mayor about what he will do with the Russian medal, or whether he will (at least temporarily) cancel the twinning of Ljubljana with Moscow,” explained Mojca Sojar, head of the NSi Ljubljana Councillors, adding that she also asked why the mayor was not present at the meeting, but did not receive an answer despite a procedural question.
