Jelka Godec to the finance minister: “Healthcare is not free! And people do not receive long‑term care even though they pay the contribution”

By: Celjski glasnik

The statement by Minister Klemen Boštjančič shows that they want to convince people that they are not to blame for anything and that they act strictly in the public interest.

And this despite the fact that they managed to create a 1.5‑billion‑euro hole in the state budget in just one year. But given the minister’s statement, SDS MP Jelka Godec is not surprised.

In a video, Minister Boštjančič tried to persuade people that the state does not take anything from citizens’ gross salaries, but that citizens are simply paying for healthcare, education, and other services. According to him, these services are “free” in Slovenia, unless people were to pay significantly more for them.

“With a finance minister like this, it is no surprise that the state budget deficit increased sharply in 2025, from -0.2 billion EUR in 2024 to -1.7 billion EUR, and that state budget expenditures rose by 15%, which is five times faster than the year before, and that real current spending of the entire public sector increased for the second year in a row much faster than the estimated long‑term economic growth. (Source: Fiscal Council) And let me add: healthcare is not free! And people do not receive long‑term care despite paying the contribution,” MP Jelka Godec pointed out in response to such statements.
