The wealthy President of the Republic of Slovenia, who presents herself as the president of all, is not satisfied with her presidential salary, as reported by the 24ur portal. After recently stating that we “will have to learn to live with less”, today she demands more, believing that she is entitled to “more”. The president’s salary amounts to 5663.42 euros gross or around three thousand euros net.
After preaching about a minimalist lifestyle just a few days ago, Nataša Pirc Musar has today confirmed with her demand that this does not apply to her. The left-wing privatiser married to a transition-era profiteer believes that she should receive more, while others should simply “learn to live with less”.
According to 24ur, the head of the president’s office, Uroš Krek, sent a letter at the end of November to the Minister of Finance Klemen Boštjančič, who was then acting as the Minister of Public Administration. In the letter, he questioned the constitutionality of the second paragraph of Article 23 of the Law on the System of Public Sector Salaries, which stipulates that officials – including Nataša Pirc Musar – are not entitled to supplements except for length-of-service allowance. The Constitutional Court has already ruled on this matter, finding no inconsistency with the constitution. However, the president’s office insists that both Nataša Pirc Musar and her colleagues are disadvantaged.
The office clarified that Pirc Musar and the employees there work beyond all legal maximum time limits set by the labour law for the protection of workers, for which they do not receive additional payment or compensation. According to Krek, this is unjustified and unconstitutional, placing the president and officials in her office in an unequal position compared to other public servants.
We are talking about the wealthiest president
Let’s be honest – we are talking about the wealthiest president to date, who already had control of at least half a million euros before the elections. Even then, she had 30 thousand euros in cash in the bank and approximately 13 thousand euros in Krka shares. She also owns nearly a quarter of a million euros in financial investments that are not further explained. It is not clear why ownership of Krka shares is not considered a financial investment.
Pirc Musar owns 75% of the family house in Radomlje, which, according to GURS data, is worth 110 thousand euros. In two companies, Pirc Musar is a co-owner. She holds almost 50% of the company Odvetniška družba Pirc Musar & Lemut Strle, estimated at 63 thousand euros. She also owns 14.6% of Ruska dača Ltd., which is supposed to be worth 113,500 euros. And there are still other material possessions.
With an emphasis on her enormous wealth, it is essential to mention that this is the same person who, upon returning from the glamour of the Arab world, where she attended a climate conference, came back with a sermon. A sermon to all citizens. Namely, that “in the future, we will have to start living differently, having less but better. I do not advocate going for a lower quality of life but less of certain goods”. It should be noted that her office reported that three nights for two members of the entourage amounted to around 1,875 euros in total. The organiser covered the accommodation costs. However, the office did not explain how much the rental of the government Falcon cost.
Her husband is even wealthier
Not to mention the fact that her husband, Aleš Musar, is also one of the wealthiest individuals in Slovenia. Despite this, he still takes advantage of the right to a monthly allowance to cover costs due to obligation, amounting to 15 percent of the president’s salary (971 euros gross). Recall that during his wife’s election campaign, he stated that he would give up the allowance, but this was not the case.
Musar, a well-known transition-era profiteer who has turned millions in his career, also owns the property known as Ruska dača in Zgornje Gameljne. This property is a cultural monument of local importance.
