On Friday afternoon, shortly after it became known that Roma attackers in Šentjernej had once again assaulted a local resident and member of the civil initiative, Andrej Brečko, the previous night (this was already the second attack within a week), we sent several questions both directly to the Minister of the Interior, Boštjan Poklukar, and to the office of Prime Minister Robert Golob.

We asked both the Minister of the Interior and the Prime Minister whether the police had already identified the perpetrator who injured a local resident in the Šentjernej area (in Mihovica). What are the police measures? Are the two Roma individuals in custody, and what kind of assistance or protection is the police providing to the victim and his family?

As of this morning, Monday, June 30th, we have not received any answers.

This reflects a very negligent, indifferent attitude of those in power toward citizens, proving once again that they say one thing and do another. Boštjan Poklukar, in fact, stated just on Friday morning, July 27th, during Police Day, that “security issues in Slovenia are over” and that the ministry and police are rapidly adapting to the new security reality. He said that they had begun to strengthen the internal security system, to connect it, and to increase its resilience.

“Our key goal remains to maintain a high level of security in Slovenia and to increase resilience to new forms of security risks and threats,” he added. Fairy tales!?
