Prime Minister Robert Golob and some ministers from the Levica party have repeatedly publicly spread the lie that the government coalition abolished supplementary health insurance. Now, this lie has been publicly repeated by the Minister of Health, Valentina Prevolnik Rupel.
Last week, she publicly stated that the coalition abolished supplementary health insurance and that as a result, there is now about 680 million euros more money in the healthcare system. This, of course, is a double lie.
The government coalition did not abolish supplementary health insurance but merely transformed it into a mandatory health contribution, which, as the name suggests, is now obligatory, unlike the previous voluntary supplementary health insurance. The amount of this contribution is the same as the former supplementary health insurance premium, with the only difference being that citizens now pay it to the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia (ZZZS) instead of to a health insurance company.
The lie is also that there is now 680 million euros more money in healthcare. Previously, supplementary healthcare services were paid for by health insurance companies, but now they are paid by the Health Insurance Institute, so the amount of money for healthcare has neither increased nor decreased.
