Government successes are recorded only by regime pollsters

By: Nova24tv.si

After two years in office, the government cannot highlight even one major success. Healthcare remains in intensive care, a chasm yawns between the government and the economy, the housing crisis is deepening, and those affected by floods are still waiting for the promised hundreds of houses. Nevertheless, support for the government and the largest ruling party is growing. This is what the media 24ur and the pro-government “polling” agency Mediana want to convince you of.

“A month has passed, and today 24ur through Mediana will undoubtedly tell you that support for the government has increased again. In the past month, several annexes were signed, peace has been achieved in Palestine, and those 1100 promised Golob houses for flood victims are under the roof,” commented opposition leader Janez Janša on the poll results.

The results of Mediana’s poll are truly unusual. Despite the widespread stagnation of the government’s “efficiency”, citizen support is increasing. Support for the government is said to have risen and stabilised at 36.2% of voters. 51.6% of respondents are unfavourable to it, and 12.2% are undecided.

Golob is active only at social events

At the political party level, SDS maintains the lead, with 22.7% of respondents supporting it according to Mediana’s measurement. The poll also recorded an increase in popularity for the Gibanje Svoboda. Perhaps due to the prime minister’s “PR stunts”, visits to sporting events? Currently, they are said to have the support of 18% of voters.

Far behind the leading parties are the Social Democrats (5.8%), followed by three parties with equally high intended support (3.8%): Levica, Nova Slovenija, and the non-parliamentary Vesna. The number of undecided voters has increased to 18.3%.

Among individual politicians, the most popular is the President of the Republic, Nataša Pirc Musar, followed by the “new face” in reserve, Vladimir Prebilič, with the third place held by the SD President Matjaž Han. Ljudmila Novak, who Mediana’s elections consistently placed just below the top in popularity, has apparently disappeared from the list forever, as this was not reflected in the last European elections. Instead, Matej Tonin was elected.

Creating public opinion

The government-supportive “polling agencies” have been subject to numerous criticisms in the past. Results often did not reflect the state of the country, leading many to form the opinion that such “houses” create public opinion rather than lead it. The excesses are the worst in the pre-election period. The current results also confirm this thesis.
