In the second half of November, the period during which property owners could submit opinions and comments on the proposed property valuation models came to an end. The Surveying and Mapping Authority will now review these inputs, and generalised property values are expected to be finalised by spring. It appears that this valuation will serve as the basis for introducing a property tax.
The mass valuation system assesses nine million properties. According to the law, property owners themselves are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the data related to their properties. Owners still have the opportunity to check whether the information used for calculating the generalised property value corresponds to the actual state of their property. If discrepancies are identified, they can initiate a process to correct the data.
It seems that the generalised property values will serve as the government’s basis for introducing a property tax. The government plans to present the framework for this initiative in a relatively short time, according to Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič.
