He also met with Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates.
Minister Logar began his stay in the United Arab Emirates by visiting the Slovenian Pavilion at Expo 2020. Together with Zdravko Počivalšek, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Technology, he addressed Slovenians living in the United Arab Emirates, stressing Slovenia’s commitment to digitalisation and green transition, which is why it is important to develop strategic partnerships with the countries with which we share similar values. “In terms of investments, the United Arab Emirates are an important partner of Slovenia. It is our wish that the cooperation between the two countries continues to go from strength to strength in the future. The recently established direct flight connection between Dubai and Ljubljana will undoubtedly be important in this regard,” said the Minister.
Minister Logar also met with Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, with whom he discussed bilateral relations and cooperation with the European Union. As to the developments in the region, the two officials touched upon the Iran nuclear deal, the situation in Afghanistan, the challenges posed by radicalisation, and the situation in Eastern Europe. They confirmed the excellent relations between the two countries that have strengthened in recent years, particularly with the opening of Slovenia’s embassy in Abu Dhabi in 2018 which provided a fresh impetus. They went on to discuss the opportunities for stepping up cooperation, especially in renewable energy and environmental technology, with a focus on water and forest management.
Minister Logar congratulated his counterpart for successfully conducting the Expo 2020 World Exhibition and presented Slovenia, which features the slogan of green and smart experience at the exhibition. He also took the opportunity to present Slovenia’s candidacy for a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2024–2025.
