“Everywhere we are sinking, everywhere we are moving backward, not forward, and this is a sign for alarm”

“All three studies show that we cannot be satisfied, as everywhere we are sinking, everywhere we are moving backward, not forward, and this is certainly a sign for alarm.”

This is how GZS Director General Vesna Nahtigal warned at today’s monthly meeting of the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (GZS) with journalists in Ljubljana.

Slovenia this year ranked 46th out of 67 countries on the competitiveness index of the Swiss IMD Institute, which is four places worse than last year. The report from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) highlighted, among other things, an extremely low productivity growth. In terms of digitalisation, Slovenia has dropped to 17th place, with the most critical area being digitalisation of the economy, where Slovenia is below the EU average in most indicators and at the bottom three in three indicators.

In addition, we cannot ignore the uncritical statements of Robert Golob, who spoke in the parliament a week ago about how excellent Slovenia is and how much envy our good results elicit both within the EU and OECD. Once again, he misled.
