The poor action or lack of action by the government has sent inflation soaring in Slovenia over the past year. Among the Eurozone countries in the European Union, only Croatia and Slovakia have a worse situation than Slovenia, according to data from the European statistical office Eurostat.

Inflation in Slovenia was significantly above the average for the euro area in September. The annual growth rate of prices was as high as 7.1 percent. The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages contributed the most to inflation, rising by 9.2 percent.

Among the countries for which Eurostat has data, only Slovakia, with 8.9 percent, and Croatia, with 7.3 percent, recorded higher inflation rates than Slovenia in September.

The euro area, as a whole, recorded a 4.3 percent inflation rate in September, down from 5.2 percent the previous month. This marks the lowest inflation rate in the euro area since October 2021, while Slovenia was significantly above the euro currency area’s average.

The data shows that the annual inflation rate in the euro area decreased to 4.3 percent in September, while Slovenia’s rate was one of the highest at 7.1 percent.
