Director-General for EU Affairs Barbara Sušnik engaged in consultations with Director-General for European Affairs Rui Vinhas at the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lisbon. The consultations were held in the context of excellent cooperation in the Trio Presidency of Germany, Portugal and Slovenia, with a special focus on reviewing bilateral relations and exchanging views on the current European and international issues.
The officials expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations and intense dynamics of high-level visits, especially during the EU Council Presidencies of the two countries. Particular attention was devoted to the pandemic situation in both countries, measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus, and coordination at the EU level.
As to the current EU topics, they focused on the recovery and resilience of the European economy, the “Fit for 55” climate package, digital transition, social dimension, the Union trade policy, migration and the situation in Afghanistan, discussion on the rule of law, EU enlargement, and the Conference on the Future of Europe. The exchange confirmed the high convergence of positions between the two countries.
