“As a person, a journalist, and a citizen, I am disappointed with the work of this process. The information I have indicates that one well-known family of lawyers is involved in my planned detention. It seems that some politicians from the emerging Gibanje Svoboda party are involved,” Bojan Požar, a journalist and editor of Požareport, told Planet TV.
After it seemed that investigative journalist Bojan Požar would have to spend the entire election campaign in custody, the news broke on Friday night that Požar’s lawyer Franci Matoz had succeeded in his appeal. “As early as Friday, I said that the illegal decision would be eliminated, as the presence of Bojan Požar at this session was not necessary,” Matoz explained.
According to lawyer Matoz, the decision was illegal. “However, the circumstances of the issuance of this decision lead me to believe that it was a deliberate act of the judges who issued this decision, so Mr. Požar and I are considering prosecuting these three judges,” he said. He explained that the decision was issued on March 23rd and that it was deliberately served on March 25th. “Apparently with the intention that the complaint would be resolved only on Monday or Tuesday and that Požar would spend at least five days in detention.” He says he is surprised that none of the politicians, especially from the party that has freedom in its name, has responded to the fact that they want to arrest an innocent journalist illegally.
Požar explained that he himself did not expect any special political support. “I have so much journalistic experience behind me that I know that politicians cannot be counted on seriously in the end. I was surprised that the matter goes so far that in 2022 the Slovenian judiciary is capable of deliberately imprisoning a journalist illegally.” He says serious consideration will need to be given to bringing all three of these judges to justice. “I work honestly and seriously as a journalist. Last but not least, dozens of lawsuits have been filed, of which only one is open, and even this one will fall in the Supreme Court. Even the state prosecutor’s office demands that the lawsuit be annulled,” he added.

Asked if there are any serious clues, he replied that he has testimonies about it, so it certainly stands. Regarding his attitude towards justice, he explained that he never uttered or used the words perjury in his writing. “I come from a judiciary family, and I have a beneficial distance from justice. But I see what is going on there. I have to say openly that I will take off my gloves and write about it more uncompromisingly than I have so far, with names and surnames,” announced Požar.
Matoz announced that he would demand the removal of this senate from the case on Monday because it appears they are not impartial. “They cannot decide on this. I guarantee that they will not decide on this,” he concluded.
