The Pension and Disability Insurance Institute of Slovenia (ZPIZ) will pay the annual supplement for the year 2024 on Friday, June 28th, together with the June pensions. This year, it will be 5 euros higher than last year, and they have also changed (raised) the thresholds for determining the amount of the supplement.
A comparison between last year’s and this year’s amounts shows that the coalition (Gibanje Svoboda, SD, and Levica) raised the threshold for determining the basis (pension) by 50 to 90 euros. However, the amount of the annual supplement in all categories is only 5 euros higher this year.
Pension recipients will receive the annual supplement for 2024 in the following amounts:

To calculate the amount of the annual supplement, the amount of the partial widow’s pension or the family pension from the other parent, supplements and differences in pensions according to other regulations, and the amount of the pension received from a foreign pension or disability insurance provider are taken into account.
The amount of the annual supplement is determined based on the total amount of pensions from the Slovenian pension insurance and pensions received from abroad and is paid according to the applicable scale.
The annual supplement is also a garnishable income (subject to enforcement) and can be seized for the benefit of a creditor, in accordance with the enforcement title and the provisions of the law.
From June 1st, 2024, ZPIZ will discontinue sending notifications of payment regarding the annual supplement to all recipients. In the future, notifications of payment will be sent to all recipients only once a year, namely during the adjustment of benefits.
Additionally, SDS has prepared a bill proposing a mandatory Christmas bonus for pensioners, which would be at least 50% of the annual supplement (source). The ruling parties have also rejected the request for an extraordinary adjustment of pensions by 4.5%. This is the amount by which all were shortchanged in payments in 2023. The government and their deputies rejected both proposals and requests; while simultaneously boasting about how well they have taken care of pensioners during their term. Understand that, if you can!
