Although leftists proclaim themselves as progressive and “scientifically oriented” – let’s recall the once-popular phrases “scientific worldview” or “scientific Marxism” – they clearly have quite serious issues with science in reality.
Let’s consider an example: the killing of an unborn child, or “artificial termination of pregnancy”. When a screen displaying a short film on how a child continuously develops from conception to birth appeared at Prešeren Square years ago, leftist organisations launched a hostile campaign. This reaction occurred despite the fact that the film had no commentary, neither verbal nor written. This very reaction revealed the underlying issue – it is that science contradicts many leftist ideological constructs.
The same applies to other matters, such as gender identity. For instance, there is gender theory, which negates biology and reduces gender identity to a “social construct”, as recently discussed in Mladina. This was in response to the scandalous decision by the International Olympic Committee to allow individuals born as men to compete in women’s categories because they “feel like women” and therefore should be treated as such. Similarly, according to leftist thinking, families with a father and a mother are merely a “social agreement” that can be arbitrarily changed.
However, they inevitably clash with biology and scientifically verifiable facts. Tanja Brkić also pointed this out:
