Do you not think, dear readers, that burek has lately become practically a Slovenian national dish?
At first, Luka Mesec posed with a burek in front of the camera. I am not sure why exactly he did it, perhaps he wanted to get closer to “ordinary people” who cannot afford a proper lunch. After all, our Luka is supposedly such a devoted friend of the working class that, in his zeal, he sank the Maribor foundry Livarna, and then raised the minimum wage several times so that the poor could more easily pay their bills. But alas, when the minimum wage goes up, the bills go up even more, and there is even less left in people’s pockets.
But pretend you do not see that; what matters is that comrade Luka – and by this I do not mean Franc Leskošek, who in the 1970s was chased all over Pokljuka, to the point that even the Avsenik Ensemble dedicated a song to him – is on your side. And that he is growing a moustache like Nicolás of Venezuela, while raising the minimum wage like Nicolás of Romania. Neither of the two Nicolases ended their careers well.
With this, Luka has shown that you certainly will not be left empty‑handed when it comes to social benefits if you vote for him. If you vote for him, you get a few extra euros. Otherwise, you get a raise of a hundred euros, but that is the work of evil capitalists like Blaž Brodnjak, right?
Apparently, our Luka inspired his government boss as well. On the steps of the Franciscan Church at Ljubljana’s Triple Bridge, both Prime Minister Robi and his Ljubljana friend Dule posed with a burek, allegedly sent into action by “Mayor” Zoki himself. For the sake of public perception, they must revive memories of the time when the “evil Janša government” persecuted those who ate a croissant on the street during the epidemic. Now, supposedly, freedom reigns.
This means that Robi and Dule can, away from the cameras, sip Zoki’s rum in peace. Meanwhile, the useful idiots draw a windmill on the Dražgoše “Gazimestan” for the price of one beer and a piece of burek. For a brighter future.
