Let’s become better for ourselves and our descendants

Grateful to those who 30 years ago first proposed and then implemented, to all those who so massively took part in the vote and bravely expressed their decision, to all those who ultimately defended this decision with weapons, we will remember the 30th anniversary of the beginnings of our independent country.

We have it, but a state is not something you put in a display case for memory and wipe the dust of it every now and then. The country is constantly changing, over time various changes surface, some better and some worse. We have made visible progress. Unfortunately, many opportunities were missed because the right people were not in the right place. But who is the right person in the right place? First, he/she must be honest, then responsible, accurate, knowledgeable, professionally trained not to make differences and not to seek benefits for him/herself, to have a vision, a long-term perspective, not to slow down but to do everything in his/her power to make things move for the better and onwards. There are still too many of those who oppose this description and, in laymen terms, do more harm than good. Surely each one of us has experience with someone like that. These, however, are not only people in public office, we can also find them among ordinary people. They mostly show their true colours during this viral period, when they disregard the measures and recommendations that could at least limit the scale of this tragedy, and after which the world will no longer be as it was. They think that they are more right than everyone else and that nothing can happen to them. Only the blue sky is above them and for them everyone else is a fool. The consequences of the virus will still be visible for a long time. But we must not be pessimistic. At the same time, this is an opportunity for a new beginning, a turning point to become better and create a pleasant environment for ourselves and for those who will come after us, so that they will live safely, be proud of the Slovenian state, admire natural resources and preserve the culture of their ancestors. May the joy of the coming Christmas fill us with hope and light. Everything will be fine.

Highlighted sentence:
