A week ago, we again experienced an abnormal stampede of left-wing media and activists in Slovenia, against the magazine Demokracija, which published a gloss. The gloss, in my opinion, humorously portrayed the standpoint of the left, but inverted in a way as if it were described by a right-winger. In terms of content and words. They experienced a pogrom of the worst kind. Even the self-proclaimed Christian Trebušak from the A Kanal entered the first battle line, bitching about the gloss with the zeal of a pioneer. Even the ombudsman came forward, who was silent at the calls for murder of the prime minister. The cream of the left-wing »academics«, »artists«, and »politicians« came forward, making value judgments – about the gloss.
At first, because the stampede was so severe, I also thought to myself that it might be horrible racism. But then I remembered that I live in Slovenia, where the actions of the left are silenced, and the actions of the right are potentiated to the sky. And of course it was exactly that. To divert attention from incompetent politicians who are still collecting 46 votes to take power. It was a mud-slinging of the weekly to cover up their political foolishness. And the media, of course, supported them in doing so.
But the bigger problem of the gloss in Demokracija was the fact that it set a mirror for leftists. Not so much in the sense of the text itself and the satire expressed in it, but in the sense that they recognized themselves in it. They recognized their style, the totalitarianism and foolishness of their views. You don’t believe it?
I’ll go back in time a bit and give you examples of when words have turned into actions – which is significantly worse than some record. Remember the buses that carried wonderful messages that abortion is not the only solution, that there is the possibility of adoption, that mothers in need are not alone? After the action of left-wing activists led by Domen Savič, the ads for life were removed from the buses. So someone has taken their totalitarian rhetoric, in which he understands abortion as a right, so far that they have abolished someone’s already paid advertisement. Let us remember the greetings of the then Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education Jernej Štromajer, who called us Christians dirty animals. At that time, did a self-proclaimed Christian from A Kanal come forward? Did he perhaps come forward, when on the day of the feast of St. Nicholas on MMC RTV they published disgusting news about autopornography? Did Peter Svetina come forward because of the inscription: »Christians, we slaughtered you in 1945, we will slaughter you today«?
Of course not. And the worst. Did any of these hypocrites respond when the Prime Minister was threatened with death at illegal and unreported protests? When there were inscriptions »Death to Janšaism« and even »Death to Janša«? Of course not, although in these cases there was an open threat of death to the highest representative of the country. Remember the outrage when a small group of Christians prayed in front of the Ljubljana maternity hospital? There have been thousands of condemnations of how inappropriate this is and how it encroaches on basic human rights.
And when they posted a video on the cathedral about the beauty of human life in the womb. In this case, too, left-wing activists demanded the withdrawal of the »disputed« video. What’s more, violence, backed by the opposition for months, erupted on the streets of Ljubljana, injuring more than a dozen police officers, destroying public property and endangering peace and security. Have we witnessed such a lynching as in the case of Demokracija? Of course not.
That can only tell you one thing. We right-wingers are ready to take freedom of speech seriously. Anyone can write and say what they want as long as they do not directly call for crimes. And there is no such call in the gloss. And something else. In Slovenia, criminal responsibility is established by the court, not Mladina, not A Kanal and not RTV, much less academics. Therefore, all those who have demanded responsibility for the gloss can keep quiet, because they obviously can’t get out of their own totalitarianism. A lawsuit has been filed against the magazine, and the court will determine if there are any signs of committing a crime.
But ask yourself how sick the country we live in is – when the main problem of that country is one gloss. Ask yourself, what kind of country do we live in when a handful of privileged people can tell us Christians that we are dirty animals? What sick country do we live in when a handful of privileged people can threaten even the prime minister with death? And no one condemns that. And Jože Biščak, editor of the weekly Demokracija, is right. For decades we withdrew and apologized to the totalitarian left for our actions, for decades they dictated to us what was right and what was not. They shouted »hate speech« and carried it out in the worst possible way. They condemned us for discarding ideas and at the same time threatened us with death. They condemned us for totalitarianism and at the same time celebrated the butchers of the totalitarian past. We’ve had enough of those times when the left dictated what was right and what was not. We’ve had enough of hypocrisy when some can and others can’t. It is too much at most of the left and its depraved ideology. It is time for a different Slovenia. For Slovenia, which will appreciate the work and results. Which will appreciate individual initiative. Which will appreciate democracy and successful people. The times when the left has dictated the pace of life are coming to an end all over the world. And, as Tanja Fajon wrote, for power they are willing to do anything. You can explain for yourself what this means, because once in our history, some have already done everything for power. And tens of thousands of people still lie unburied today.
