When Svoboda and SD argue and bite each other

By: Dr Vinko Gorenak

When you read this text, some information may already be outdated. Personally, it is difficult for me to timely capture all the details about who in the coalition has quarrelled with whom, who has called for someone’s resignation, who is threatening whom, who is framing whom, and more. But all of this is the reality of the existing coalition.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, this may be a surprise, but for many, it is not, and it is not for me either. Since the government of Borut Pahor in 2009, through the governments of Alenka Bratušek in 2013 and Miro Cerar in 2014, to the government of Marjan Šarec in 2018, it has been entirely the same.

Do you still remember the triumphant trio of Pahor, Katarina Kresal, and Gregor Golobič in 2008? Wherever they appeared, they waved with raised hands, clapped, hugged people, and more. Everything pointed to the triumphant trio. But just a year later, insinuations, accusations, insults, blackmail, and more began. It all continued until Kresal resigned due to the infamous affair involving the rental of a building on Dimičeva Street in Ljubljana for the needs of the NPU. Gregor Golobič, however, sank Pahor’s government.

The same happened with Alenka Bratušek, until Milan Kučan “visited” her, and we went to preliminary elections. A similar situation occurred with Miro Cerar. The great justiciar and lawyer faced the same problems until he had to resign prematurely, and we went to preliminary elections. After the victory of the SDS in the 2018 elections, it was not Janez Janša who formed the government. Marjan Šarec did, also a great saviour of Slovenia, at least on paper. But halfway through the term, in 2020, he gave up, threw in the towel, and ran away.

Therefore, I argue that the same is happening to the “best” manager of all time in Slovenia, Robert Golob. We are witnessing insinuations, blackmail, threats, and more. The only difference between previous governments and the current one is that this is happening a year and a half after the elections.

The current state in the coalition actually reminds me of a zoo where several beasts are supposed to be physically separated, but someone has removed the barriers, so they attack and bite each other, the stronger ones trying to devour the weaker ones for a snack, and more. Only the most skilful and small inhabitants of the zoo crawl into small holes, where they rejoice and actually become the winners of the beastly fight.

Of course, you guessed it, everything indicates that Golob’s Gibanje Svoboda (GS) wants to finally destroy (devour) the Social Democrats (SD), while the Levica has taken refuge in a hole from where they observe the beastly fight between GS and SD while consistently implementing their programme of increasingly establishing socialism in Slovenia. It is also true that within this coalition, GS is the strongest in terms of the number of MPs, followed by SD, and the smallest is the Levica. However, the political power is actually the opposite. The Levica party successfully implements its programme of creating socialism in Slovenia, SD is far behind in the successful implementation of its programme, and GS does not even think about it. Many are already realising that they are “dancing” their first and last term. Robert Golob is not interested in this at all; he is not even interested in leading the government. He is only interested in private business, mostly focusing on where he can or will get a million.

So that you do not say that I am talking nonsense and that nothing like this is happening. The above statements can, of course, be verified. At this time, much more is happening than we think. It is not just an open political conflict between GS and SD over the purchase of a building for the needs of the Ljubljana courts on Litijska 51 in Ljubljana, which the Minister of Justice, Dominika Švarc Pipan, overpaid by a whopping 6 million euros. Millions are said to have gone into private pockets. The mentioned fact is just a framework used to accuse and blackmail each other in public. In reality, it is an affair that, based on government data, was allegedly initiated by the general secretary of GS, Vesna Vuković, who started an open attack on SD, where they fell for her tactics.

Certainly, Minister Dominika Švarc Pipan cannot be defended, but after SD disowned her, she found political asylum with Robert Golob. Allegedly, they agreed that she would investigate all irregularities and then leave. Please, she is the signatory of the contract and the main actor in the affair of purchasing the mentioned building, and now she is investigating what went wrong. Of course, she is not doing this; logically, she is destroying evidence against herself. The police have not yet come to the Ministry of Justice. If she had a clear conscience, she would have collected all the written and other evidence in a single day and handed them over to the police. She does not do that; according to the agreement with Robert Golob, she is collecting evidence of irregularities, i.e., evidence against herself. Yes, you must be really foolish to collect evidence against yourself, which Dominika Švarc Pipan certainly is not.

But all this is a public show. In the background, it is about the destruction of SD, led by Tanja Fajon, but they have not understood that yet. The mentioned lady was never considered among the intellectual gems. But now, Matjaž Nemec, an MEP nicknamed “Thread”, is allegedly ruining her. In the time of Covid 19, in 2020, he had an insurmountable problem because he could not travel from municipality to municipality and could not buy a thread for his lawnmower. If Tanja Fajon was never an intellectual highlight for me, Matjaž Nemec is just a pale shadow of her, something intellectually lower. This, of course, is a guarantee for the final sinking of the boat called SD.

When two quarrel, the third profits, as the saying goes. And this is also happening within the coalition. The Levica is silent; after the call for Miha Kordiš to leave Levica, everything is quiet. They actually have a reason to be happy. While GS and SD argue and bite, Levica is rapidly implementing its programme of establishing socialism in Slovenia.

So, Golob is on the path of Pahor, Bratušek, Cerar, and Šarec. The only difference is that he cares only about millions of euros, something the previously mentioned probably did not think about.
