Totalitarians among parliamentarians

By: Davorin Kopše

More than thirty years after the introduction of the democratic system in the Republic of Slovenia, the Resolution on European Consciousness and Totalitarianism was on the agenda of the Slovenian Parliament for the fifth time. It is a resolution that would condemn at the political level all totalitarianisms that have historically oppressed human rights and caused countless casualties. It is a resolution based on a resolution adopted by the European Parliament in April 2009. The resolution is important because of the broad nature of condemning totalitarian regimes in the past and looking to the future, where these horrors should never be repeated, even with condemnations.

In totalitarian systems, they like to emphasise democracy because they know it is close to man. But they never implemented it. On the contrary, human rights have not been enforced in totalitarian systems where government is ruled by a hard hand of power against the will of the people. Let me just mention the Democratic Republic of Germany, as East Germany was called during the communist era, where true democracy was undesirable. Many totalitarian states call themselves democratic according to this key.

In Yugoslavia, we knew self-governing socialism, which was supposed to even exceed all democratic standards. Today, however, we are faced with the bizarre term democratic opposition, which we would like to put on in the insidious and exclusive opposition coalition KUL. It is precisely the members of this society and some of the associated mental cripples of today who have rejected with disgust the condemnation of all totalitarianisms. For them, democracy has always been the number one enemy.

Today, Slovenia belongs to the part of the world that has systematically set democratic standards and human rights. Unfortunately, we still have a large part of the National Assembly, which cannot come to terms with this. This is always most reflected at a time when this totalitarian part of politics is not in power. In the current term, they have tightened daily politics to such an extent that they exclude any possibility of cooperating with democratically elected politics after the next democratic elections. Anyone who knows them knows why they do so.

Forty-two shameful voices

Following the adoption of the resolution in the European Parliament, the resolution of the Slovenian Parliament was also on the table in Slovenia for the fifth time to stop totalitarianism at the national level or to declare them evil. Unfortunately, when voting, the Democrats were able to look up sadly once again, as forty-two members of the democratic parliament of democratic Slovenia were once again against and there was no majority condemnation.

Forty-two MPs voted against the condemnation of fascism, Nazism and Communism. In the great zeal of defending the beloved criminal communism, which they are trying to revive, they have thus also protected two other totalitarianisms, which are in essence related to communism. As is well known, they made pacts until Hitler’s attack on the Soviet Union. It is hard to believe, but this really happened in the Slovenian parliament. Moreover, they do not even have a proper explanation. They are against and a totalitarian period.

This is the case in Slovenia because we did not carry out lustration that was on the table in the 1990s, but it was rejected in the same way as the resolution under consideration. These days, I noticed a post on Twitter that the communist monster had just gone silent during the independence of Slovenia, which is otherwise known. For the first time, however, I heard that one of the biggest executioners during the revolution and communism, Mitja Ribičič, said at the time that the temporary withdrawal from power was a good tactic, and the judiciary should not be let go. Yes, they are still defending it today. Why?

The Stožice affair

Because we do not deal with the spirit of the totalitarian past, we have the Supreme and Constitutional Courts as they are. They also condemn the innocent if they benefit politically. That is why they want their delegated European prosecutors. The prosecution of perpetrators of misuse of European cohesion funds is, among other things, the responsibility of this prosecution. Just who will they prosecute, imaginary or real criminals, who are most often on their ideological side? There have been quite a few abuses of European funds in Slovenia, but nothing has happened to anyone so far. For example, Janković and Jakič from the totalitarian ideological political party Positive Slovenia (Roman Jakič later joined the Alenka Bratušek Party, which also sings revolutionary communist songs – e.g., Bandiera rossa), who “did business” in Stožice.

Instinct for self-preservation

In the painful history of the Slovene nation, the nation’s self-preservation reflex took place, which, instead of understanding and acknowledging, still stirs the spirits of many. I am talking about the part of Slovenia where the Home Guard was born. As early as 1940 in Zagreb, Kardelj made it clear that in the event of occupation, the Communist Party would organise resistance only if it had the opportunity to carry out a revolution and come to power. They planned a fratricidal revolution.

During the occupation of Slovenia, Italy opted for a softer approach than Germany. In the province of Ljubljana, the occupation did not change much for ordinary people, as journalist and historian Jože Možina writes in his high-profile book Razkol. The Communists therefore decided to resist the occupier in the part of Slovenia where, realistically, there were fewer reasons for this. They did so on June 22nd, when Hitler severed his friendship with Stalin. Until then, the communists were not interested in the occupation of Slovenia. They were interested in power, but they were bothered by patriotism. Since then, nothing has changed in relation to them, power and patriotism.

In June 1941, a decision was made to carry out a revolution and take power. The vast majority of the struggle was directed against domestic political opponents, which was reflected in the number of civilian casualties caused by the so-called national liberators. In the spring of 1942, the number of civilian casualties skyrocketed. These, as we see, were not caused by the occupier, but by the revolutionaries who carried out their violent raids. This was also the reason for the establishment of village guards. It was not until 1943 that the guards renamed themselves Home Guard with the first establishments of defensive military formations. At the beginning, they did not shoot at the bandits, but with the awareness that there were also Slovenes on the other side, they shot past them, just to chase them away.

We can therefore argue that communists are essentially not bothered by Nazis and fascists any more and no less than political opponents. The indicator is, as already mentioned, the fifth rejection of the condemnation of totalitarianism. They do not care – they do not mind if there are other totalitarianisms on the list of convictions. In order to protect their holy party, they also protected their genetic totalitarian brothers, Nazis and fascists, from condemnation. Life-threatening residents have therefore linked up with minor evils to protect their lives and to protect themselves from the evil pogrom of communist savages. In Parliament, however, we have experienced the protection of two criminal systems in order to protect our political interests. The difference is huge.

“Renamed Communism”

The Home Guard is therefore a self-defence organisation that has never fought for power and never become a regime but was nevertheless mentioned and condemned by the defence forces of totalitarianism in a discussion in the National Assembly. In Slovenia, the renamed communism believes that even in the opposition it is the ruler, that would like to dictate the direction and manner of governing democratic power. In the whole period of the existence of democratic Slovenia, therefore, they have not changed in anything. First, they were the Communist Party and the League of Communists, and since the independence they have pretended to be reformers united in lists, and lastly as the Social Democrats together with the ideological satellites Levica, Alenka Bratušek’s party and Marjan Šarec’s list (KUL). “Same shit, just different packaging,” they would say in the South.

How many more times will Slovenia have to liberate in order to be finally liberated? Condemnation of totalitarianisms is the foundation of this intention. Until the condemnation of all totalitarianisms, we will be free neither in spirit nor in reality. We need democratic parliamentarians in the temple of democracy, not 42 totalitarians!
