They try to cover up their immaturity and absurdity with eloquent rhetoric

By: Dr Metod Berlec

On Monday, at the coalition summit (Gibanje Svoboda, SD, and Levica) led by Robert Golob at Brdo pri Kranju, they once again engaged in grand eloquence about “strengthening public healthcare, a sustainable pension system, and housing for young people.”

They highlighted three key areas of legislation: the wage reform in the public sector, healthcare reform, and pension reform. At the same time, they claimed that the government coalition was also intensively working on housing policy. However, it was clear that this was yet another empty show for the public. With this arrogant and inconsistent government coalition, we are witnessing state-unfriendly actions, wrong decisions, madness, and even absurdities week after week, all of which are pushing Slovenia in the wrong direction and dragging it further down.

A good example of this is the so-called wage reform, which primarily rewards those who were already well-paid, while neglecting the lowest-paid workers. So much for the leftists in power, who are supposedly advocating for “the common man”. They talk a lot about reforms, but it would be much better if they talked about anti-reforms or, at best, about amendments to existing laws. It is clear that it would be much better for us, the citizens, and the country if they did nothing at all, as everything they touch only makes things worse. A case in point is public healthcare, which is in an increasingly worse state. Golob’s government has been attacking Slovenian doctors for almost three years, insulting them as amphibians, layabouts, and parasites, while pushing them into private healthcare. At the same time, they are inviting foreign doctors who do not speak Slovenian and have highly questionable medical qualifications into Slovenian public healthcare.

Almost daily, along with Golob’s pathological behaviour, we are confronted with the absurdities produced by the President of the National Assembly, Urška Klakočar Zupančič. She behaves as if she were running some sort of brothel, not one of the most important institutions in the country – the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, or the temple of democracy. On top of that, the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic, Nataša Pirc Musar, publicly argued. Golob accused her of being irresponsible and undemocratic in her handling of staffing matters. He was upset because she did not send the coalition’s choice of Saša Jazbec for the position of Governor of the Bank of Slovenia for approval. Pirc Musar responded by saying that the Prime Minister had “disappointed her as a politician”. She labelled Golob’s media attacks as “undemocratic and politically immature extortion”. Well, the thoughts expressed at Pučnik’s symposium in Slovenska Bistrica were much more mature.
