Response to the writing in Delo’s Saturday supplement: Unprofessional and ideologically biased

I wrote the text immediately and sent it to the editorial board of Delo on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024, for publication in the Saturday supplement in the Pisma section. Since it was not published today, November 16th, 2024, I am now sending it to you! It is a response to the Editorial by Mr. Ali Žerdin and the article Portrait of the Week written by Mrs. Saša Vidmajer. Both were published in the Saturday supplement of Delo on November 9th, 2024.

When reading the two mentioned articles, a thinking person must ask themselves about the impartiality of the mentioned journalists and their honesty towards the readers of Delo. It is quite clear that every newspaper operates under the dictate of its owners! Nevertheless, I believe it would be appropriate, for the sake of hygiene and objective information for Slovenians, that our central newspaper inform us objectively or at least with approximately balanced views on all our domestic and even foreign political issues. In this sense, reports must be clearly separated from comments, and the comments should be derived from various perspectives! This is generally not the case with us! To illustrate the activist work of Mr. Žerdin, I would like to offer a comment. Some time ago, in a conversation with Dr Markeš (From Wednesday to Wednesday) about problems in healthcare, he showed no real understanding of the work and the most serious issues in healthcare (from the lack of quality control, the absence of communication among healthcare professionals at various levels, inadequate financing, the feminisation of healthcare, an unregulated network at all levels of healthcare, to the incorrectly set-up system for selecting medical students). At the forefront was, from his side, only ideology and the advocacy for public healthcare. Correct! But we do not need the kind of public healthcare we currently have. There was no mention of solutions to the messed-up situation, for which, according to him, doctors are to blame. Even the “criminalisation” of doctors, for mistakes that mostly happen due to a malfunctioning system (proven in extensive studies in the USA), does not contribute to solving the situation. But I assume that Mr. Ali Žerdin either does not know much about this or simply does not want to know.

Even now, in his editorial, there is nothing different. He asks, I quote: “Why did the rough, uncouth, boastful billionaire win, and why did the cultivated vice president and former prosecutor lose? Almost every time Trump faced an audience, he gave the impression of being angry. And Kamala Harris was always smiling.” It is hard to imagine that for a journalist like Mr. Žerdin, in the US presidential election, the most important issue was the face of the candidates and not issues like the economy or immigration. He forgets to mention that Mrs. Harris was completely unsuccessful in limiting immigration, and many analysts believed this was even done intentionally. Is there any similarity with us? He forgot to mention that many of her closest collaborators recently left her. When talking about kindness, he also forgets that Mrs. Harris compared Mr. Trump to Hitler. Of course. This is very similar to what is happening on the left in our environment, and it is accepted by the mainstream media, but it is not friendly! Did he not say during the presidential election (or the election for the head of state) that the “dark” forces must not win? Further, Mr. Žerdin wonders if the Democrats have become too cozy with big capital? This question is, of course, valid and relevant in our environment as well. What about the wealth of our important politicians on the left (Mr. Janković, Dr. Golob, Mr. Han, perhaps even the husband of the president), “whose hearts beat for the working class”? I do not know any data or evidence that they have earned their wealth solely through hard work and ability!

Even more was written by Mrs. Saša Vidmajer, who titled her article, I quote: “Donald Trump, darkness is descending upon us”. She wrote that Trump is a political genius who understood that Americans care more about the economy than democracy. Of course, she does not mention that in America a capable person is not immediately criminalised, that black people, legally immigrated, can succeed, and that meritocracy still means something. She also did not mention the role of the central media in America, which are mostly in the hands of left-wing globalists who are systematically destroying values such as: family, nation, religion, and the numerous non-governmental organisations that, due to their affiliation with left-wing ideas, received billions without public tenders in the past year. Does this remind us of our environment? In the subtitle, she wrote, I quote: “It has shown that the values of democracy and the Constitution are of no importance for America,” end quote. This is her assessment, but the assessment of most Americans is clearly different: for them, traditional values, along with the economy and preventing illegal immigration, are important!

These are examples of writing that reveal much about the political beliefs of both authors, which, of course, we cannot hold against them. However, it would be right for Delo to also publish the opinions of journalists with different perspectives!
