Propaganda that distorts facts and fuels hatred

By: Gašper Blažič

I remember how about 25 years ago, as a teenager (on my own initiative), I faced the bitter truth about the so-called National Liberation War (NOB), which was actually a revolution and not a resistance against the occupiers, as we were taught in schools. At that time, I also learned the true background of the so-called collaboration, which the descendants of the revolutionaries still use as an excuse for their bloody revolutionary zeal. Most of the public applauds to this. Of course, because the propaganda machine has been working for almost 80 years, continuously producing new generations burdened with lies and hatred.

However, as I wrote in my column last weekend, it is actually (leftist) admirers of Hamas who most idolise Adolf Hitler. Propaganda plays an important role here as well. For instance, the media reports that Israel has attacked a hospital with planes, causing a terrible massacre among innocent civilians. Then, they claim that there was another attack on an Orthodox church in Gaza. Interestingly, the media always cites local Palestinian sources, which are, of course, Hamas-controlled. What do we learn from them? That the Israeli army, in its vengeful frenzy, goes after civilians, which supposedly means they are as bad as or worse than Hamas terrorists. Such reporting significantly influences events around the world, including politics. And it strongly fuels the violent behaviour of pro-Palestinian demonstrators, who spice up this particular version of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict story with violence during “truth rallies”. Ultimately, this type of reporting only fuels hatred in the Islamic world, not only toward Israel but also toward the West in general. This increases the risk of a new world war.

Let’s not forget that the young generations in our country are poisoned by the revolutionary fervour, which is just a result of false propaganda about the National Liberation War (NOB), extending into the present day. Ironically, at the core of this revolution, gathered within the Levica party, there is a group that is fiercely hostile to supposed Slovenian “Nazis”, even though it is itself highly burdened with hatred towards Jews. Moreover, let’s not forget about the Moskovič Villa in Ljubljana…
