Yes, even though we are celebrating the 33rd anniversary of the Slovenian state, the age of Christ, it seems that there is still not enough wisdom in this country, which we will have to wait for and will come when the generations that fought in a different era finally dismount from Slovenian daily politics and leave the creation of the modern every day to generations that had no contact with the past, which should not be an integral part of the present. Yes, then the conditions will be set for a heartfelt Slovenia without any kind of precondition. The current “boxing” on the political scene, with gloves or without, is shallow and pathetic, and, dare I say, even immature.
Therefore, the words of Archbishop Alojzij Cvikl are not superfluous when he says that having our own country is a divine gift, a gift to which we must devote ourselves every day, nurture, maintain, give, and believe in it. Each of us must also work and believe in the truth. The truth is only one and is not a marketing product to be “redesigned” as needed. The annual celebration connects us or should connect us even more in the love for our homeland and the nurturing of it.
Is this the case?
No matter how you turn it, you cannot avoid the feeling that we have two parallel Slovenias. One that is in the hearts, heads, and minds of all of us—patriotic, heartfelt, devoted to the homeland—and on the other side, the “free” liberated, and detached from all bonds, obligations, free without responsibility, which is just another name for anarchy. If we add a narcissistic and self-proclaimed energy expert in the role of the President of the Government, alienated “Napoleon”, then the “measure” of madness is full to the brim. When he visits half of the globe and fulfils his unsung childhood dreams, he comes to Slovenia, organises a state celebration “above which he is”, and protects himself from its citizens by installing a metal detector alongside the “golden gate” of heaven to check whether the trust of these 400 thousand deceived people holds or not. It seems that at this celebration, which they call the main one and at a half-empty venue, there was a lot of unnecessary effort, and there was no particular interest in checking at the metal detector. Perhaps also to avoid accidentally detecting any “vibrator” with some “freedom”. Once again, it is evident that they have remained and persisted in the time of one-party celebrations. The audience is suitable for this, highly inaugurated, “stoned”, and idle children of former party officials or eminences, and individual “archaeological” exhibits supported by modern medicine tools and deeply wrinkled faces and dull or absent looks. This is a poor image and even worse a mirror despite all the excessive event cosmetics with which they try to prove progress, freedom, and more, perceived and seen only through their “rose-coloured” glasses.
How to proceed?
Life after thirty is called maturity. After 33 years, when we are celebrating as many years of our independent and sovereign Slovenia, it is the same. Many rightly believe that this time is the best to avoid the mistakes of youth or youth itself, in the case of Slovenia, while maintaining good mental health and faith, and having the opportunity to enjoy accumulated life experiences, sometimes even bitter ones. Therefore, it is right to persevere in loving and nurturing our beautiful Slovenia and its beauties, mountains, rivers, and its people, in our hearts and everyday life.
Let us rejoice in our homeland, let us rejoice in life. God bless you!
