Misclassified. Again!

By: Dr Andreja Valič Zver

Dear readers, what does this group of countries at the UN General Assembly in New York remind you of: Iran, Syria, Qatar, Jordan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa, Maldives, Namibia, Botswana, Brazil, Ireland, Spain, Belgium, and Slovenia? A mix of dangerous regimes, banana republics, and European governments with extremist leanings. This list reflects those who stand on the wrong side of history, on the side of evil. The UN, it seems, is increasingly becoming a space of anti-democracy.

Thanks to Golob’s administration, led by the Foreign Minister, Slovenia has sunk into a swamp from which it will be difficult to emerge. Even the President of the Republic added her share, seizing the opportunity to deliver empty platitudes in a nearly deserted hall of the UN palace in New York, remarks that might earn a polite smile if they were not causing such colossal damage. And lo and behold, the very next day she proudly posted a photo of herself and her husband standing beside President Trump and First Lady Melania, as if they were close family friends. Shameless and distasteful, especially considering Trump’s unwavering support for Israel.

Let us not forget the NLB scandal, where two billion dollars were laundered for Iran’s theocratic regime. Accounts under names like “Mickey Mouse” and “Donald Duck” were approved without issue. Where the dirty money ended up, we can only speculate. It is assumed that part of it funded operations of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, and perhaps, if they received just 25% for laundering, it amounted to half a billion dollars for our own domestic “Hamas sympathisers.” A parliamentary inquiry was launched, but it unfolded more like a case of “the mountain trembled and gave birth to a mouse.” One might even ask whether it was more of a public performance than a genuine investigation. Where are the criminal complaints, the accused, the convictions? Where is the epilogue to the biggest financial crime in the history of Slovenia’s banking industry? The actors were undoubtedly well compensated. But one wonders whether they realise that serving the masters of evil comes with a bitter end.

The naïve denial that Slovenian foreign policy serves national interests is not just foolish, it is dangerous. Our neighbours Croatia, Italy, Austria, Hungary, as well as Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and others have chosen the path of normalcy and realistically assessed who the victims and perpetrators are in the Middle East. As we know, the terrorist organisation Hamas uses hospitals, schools, and other civilian sites for its criminal acts, which is prohibited under international law. The targets of their attacks are innocent civilians, including Palestinians who oppose Hamas’s destructive actions. On the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack on Jewish settlements, which claimed over 1,200 lives, we must remember that 48 hostages are still held in underground tunnels beneath Gaza. Twenty are believed to be alive. When Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the UN a few days ago and we learned that his speech was broadcast into Gaza via loudspeakers, it sent chills down our spines. Anyone with a shred of empathy listened and understood. Yet judging by the outcry on social media and in mainstream media, there are far too many among us who harbour hatred and an abundance of evil, especially toward Jews.

You might say, “Not Gaza again…” Of course, ahead of the upcoming spring elections, we should address domestic burdens and issues that even the sparrows on the rooftops are chirping about. But let me emphasise: the operations of Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, South American drug cartels, the São Paulo Forum, Antifa, and others are coordinated and aimed at the destruction of Western civilisation and Christianity, one of its most vital pillars. The Slovenian nation is under heavy attack from these dark forces, which manifest in every segment of daily life.

And it is far from true that Soros’s platform is finished. We must remain vigilant and respond to the signs of the times. Trump, for example, has finally realised that Putin is not his ally, that Hamas must be decisively defeated, that sanctions against Iran must be reinstated, and that none of this can be achieved without allies in Europe.
